How to Connect Sunpie 6-Light Bronco Fog Lights to the Factory Auxiliary Switches
The Sunpie 6-Light 116W LED Flood Beam Fog Lights feature both white and amber lighting modes. With the included remote control and standard wiring harness, you can switch between white and amber light, select different flashing patterns, and use the lights as white or amber daytime running lights.
Some Ford Bronco owners, however, prefer to control the fog lights directly through the vehicle’s factory auxiliary switches. This modification is possible, but it requires bypassing part of the original control system and giving up certain remote-control functions.
This guide explains both wiring options and the tradeoffs involved.
Option 1: Standard Wiring — Recommended
For most installations, we recommend retaining the original wiring harness and remote-control system.
The harness can be connected directly to the battery:
- Connect the black power wire to the battery’s negative terminal.
- Connect the red power wire to the battery’s positive terminal.
Although a direct battery connection will power the lights, we recommend connecting the red wire to a switched 12V ACC power source instead.
With the red wire connected to ACC power, the fog light system completely loses power when the vehicle is turned off. This helps prevent unnecessary standby power consumption and reduces the possibility of draining the battery while the Bronco is parked.
The recommended ACC wiring method retains all available functions, including:
- White light
- Amber light
- White and amber daytime running light modes
- White/amber color switching
- Flashing patterns
- Remote-control operation
If you want to retain the complete functionality of the lights, use this wiring method.
Option 2: Connecting the Lights to a Bronco Auxiliary Switch
The lights can also be modified so that the white light is controlled directly by one of the Bronco’s factory auxiliary switches.
However, this modification bypasses the remote-control module for the selected lighting circuit.
Functions You Will Lose
When the lights are wired directly to an auxiliary switch, the remote control will no longer operate the selected circuit. This means you will lose functions such as:
- Remote on/off control
- Flashing patterns
- Remote white/amber color switching
The auxiliary switch will provide basic on/off control only.
If you later want to restore the remote-control functions, the wiring must be returned to the original configuration and reconnected using the recommended standard wiring method.
Understanding the Wires Below the Relays
Caption: Locate the two white wires, two red wires, and two black wires below the relays before modifying the harness.
Below the relays, you will find three wire colors:
- White wires: Control the white light
- Red wires: Control the amber light
- Black wires: Negative/ground
There are two white wires and two black wires because the harness supplies both the left and right fog light assemblies.
How to Control the White Lights with an Auxiliary Switch
To operate the white lights through a Bronco auxiliary switch:
- Disconnect the vehicle battery before cutting or modifying any wiring.
- Locate the white, red, and black wires below the relays, as shown in the reference photo.
- Cut the required wires below the relays so that the selected lighting circuit can bypass the original remote-control system.
- Connect both white wires to the positive output wire of the selected Bronco auxiliary switch.
- Connect both black wires to the vehicle’s negative terminal or a clean, secure chassis ground.
- Insulate the unused wires individually with heat-shrink tubing or high-quality electrical insulation. Do not leave any exposed conductors.
- Reconnect the battery and test the auxiliary switch.
Both white wires and both black wires must be connected. If only one wire from either pair is connected, one side may not illuminate or the circuit may not operate correctly.
Important: Do Not Combine the White and Amber Control Wires
The white wires control the white lighting circuit, while the red wires control the amber lighting circuit.
Do not connect the white and red control wires together. Doing so may cause improper operation or damage the controller or lighting circuit.
If you want the auxiliary switch to control the amber lights instead of the white lights, the red control wires would be used in place of the white wires. The same loss of remote flashing and color-switching functions will apply.
Check the Auxiliary Circuit Rating
This fog light kit is rated at up to 116W. At 12V, 116W represents approximately 9.7 amps under ideal conditions:
116W ÷ 12V = approximately 9.7A
Actual current can vary according to vehicle voltage and the selected lighting mode. Before making the connection, confirm that the chosen Bronco auxiliary circuit and its wiring are rated for the expected current draw.
If you are unsure about the auxiliary switch rating or the correct Bronco wire, consult the vehicle owner’s manual or have the installation completed by a qualified automotive electrician.
Can the Original Functions Be Restored?
Yes. This modification does not permanently change the fog lights themselves.
The remote-control functions can be restored by reconnecting the wiring to its original configuration and installing the lights according to the recommended Sunpie wiring method.
Because the modification requires cutting the harness wires, label every wire before cutting and take clear photos of the original connections. This will make it much easier to restore the system later.
Which Wiring Method Should You Choose?
Choose the standard ACC wiring method if you want:
- Full remote-control operation
- White and amber light selection
- Flashing patterns
- Daytime running light functions
- The ability to restore or change modes at any time
Choose the auxiliary-switch modification if you want:
- Simple factory-style on/off control
- Control through the Bronco’s auxiliary switch panel
- White-light or amber-light operation without using the remote
- A cleaner, more integrated driving experience
The auxiliary-switch method is useful for owners who prioritize factory-style control, but the standard ACC wiring method remains our recommended installation because it preserves every function built into the lighting system.
